Qualified partner in the field of co-engineering and material development
An internationally renowned manufacturer of coffee machines continually develops new products and has to deal with the increasingly demanding sterilization and cleaning processes and changing temperature requirements. The customer came to ERIKS Germany with major leakage problems. He was looking for a reliable supplier and qualified partner in the field of co-engineering and material development.
The application required the following quality characteristics of the seals (O-rings):
- FDA conformity according to CFR 21.177.2600;
- a broad chemical resistance to alkalies and acidic cleaning agents at 60 to 80° C;
- a high resistance to water vapor up to 150° C.
The ERIKS Application Engineer took the following steps with the customer:
- analysis of the damage patterns that the customer already had in the application;
- checking the groove design;
- material analysis of our composite portfolio with regard to the application parameters.
New XTR-Fluor material 900851
The analysis of the damage patterns showed a rapid aging by water vapor and the cleaning agents used. ERIKS decided to use a new XTR-Fluor material, the 900851, due to the heavy operating conditions. The XTR-900851 is a terpolymer that is specially formulated for use in applications with water vapor and a high chemical resistance.
After ERIKS’ analysis and advice, the customer ordered the first samples for a long-term test to convince himself of the quality. After seven months the test phase was over and the customer started a pilot.
